Prasidh Krishna Biography and Career

Tall frame, raw pace, and ability to extract bounce from short of good length make this Indian bowler unique in the cricketing world. Prasidh Krishna, a right-arm fast-medium bowler, is one of India’s most promising pacers.

His journey from domestic cricket to the international level is a testament to his hard work, perseverance and focus towards the game.

Prasidh came into the spotlight when he took 5 for 49 on his first-class debut for Karnataka against Bangladesh A in 2015. This performance, which included a wicket off his very first ball, caught the attention of selectors and cricket enthusiasts alike.

His breakthrough season came in the 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he ended up being the second-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets in 8 matches. This performance continued in the 2018-19 season as well, where he was the leading wicket-taker for Karnataka in the same tournament.

The right-arm pacer's impressive performance continued as he took his maiden first-class ten-wicket haul against Jammu and Kashmir during the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy. He picked up 6/35 in the first innings and 4/59 in the second innings.

His consistent performance and wicket-taking abilities opened the doors for him to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His IPL journey started in 2018 when he was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a replacement player. He debuted against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 6, 2018. His best performance came against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in that season when he took 4 for 30.

Such performances have elevated his name in the cricketing world and it was highly recognised when he was bought by Rajasthan Royals for a whopping price of Rs 10 crore in the 2022 IPL auction.

In the 2025 IPL mega auction, he was bought by the Gujarat Titans (GT) for Rs 9.5 crore, reflecting his growing reputation in the cricket world.

With his impressive performance, it was a matter of time for him to get the chance to play for the Indian team. His domestic and IPL performance caught the attention of selectors and he got selected to play his first international game for India against England on March 23, 2021.

In that One Day International (ODI) match, he picked up 4 for 54, the best figures by a debutant for India at the time. Later, Prasidh was selected to play against West Indies in February 2022 in an ODI series. In the second match, he took 4 wickets for 12 runs and won the Player of the Match award and also went on to win the Player of the Series award.

His performances earned him a spot in India's squad for the 2023 Cricket World Cup, where he played a crucial role in the team's campaign.

His match-winning performance in ODIs earned him a place in the Test and Twenty20 International (T20I) squad of India. While he was named as one of four standby players in India's Test squad for the final of the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship and in a series against England, his official debut came against South Africa on December 26, 2023.

In T20I games, he made his debut against Ireland on August 18, 2023. His best performance in T20I came against Australia on November 26, 2023, when he took 3 for 41.

Like every cricketer, Prasidh's career has been marked by several highs and a few lows, while he was part of India's squad that won the 2023 Asia Cup, he also holds the unwanted record of conceding the most runs in a spell in a T20I for India.

He also faced challenges due to injuries in his career. A stress fracture in his lumbar spine in 2023 and a quadriceps tendon injury in 2024 sidelined him for an extended period, causing him to miss the 2023 and 2024 IPL seasons.

From being a promising youngster to becoming a vital member of the Indian cricket team, Prasidh's journey has been full of brilliant performances. His ability to extract bounce and accuracy makes him a great bowler in every format.
