Robin Minz Biography and Career

Young and dynamic cricketer known for his aggressive batting style and wicket-keeping skills, Robin Minz has created a buzz in the cricket world. He comes from a state that has produced the legendary MS Dhoni -- Jharkhand. His explosive batting has earned him the nickname "Jharkhand's Chris Gayle" and "next Dhoni". His journey from the small towns of Jharkhand to the national level demonstrates his hard work, determination, and raw talent.

The left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman made his debut in List A cricket in the Gumla Premiere League for Gumla Red in February 2021. In the league, he performed extremely well and missed his maiden century by four runs, however, he was the top scorer of the match.

In the next match of the league, he played a brilliant innings of 154 runs in 73 balls and helped his team win the match. After a few months in the same year, he was promoted to Gumla Senior. He got a chance to play in the Randhir Verma Trophy 2021-22 and again became the top scorer of the match by hitting 70 runs and finishing the game in just 27 overs. He performed quite well throughout the season but lost the semi-final.

Minz's continued impressive performances earned him a spot in the Rampage Cricket Club, a cricket team, where he showcased his batting strength. His performances impressed the selectors and he was selected for Jharkhand in the BC Mahanti Memorial T20 Invitational Cricket Tournament in 2023. His performance in the tournament, which also included a 73-run knock, caught the attention of IPL selectors and he was bought by Gujarat Titans (GT) for Rs 3.6 crore in the 2024 IPL auction.

He became the first tribal (Adivasi) player to get an IPL contract when he was signed by Gujarat Titans. However, a motorcycle accident, just before the start of the 2024 IPL season, ruled him out for the entire season. He was later bought by Mumbai Indians (MI) for Rs 65 lakh in the 2025 mega auction.

Minz's fearless approach to batting and calm behaviour under pressure has made him a standout player in the domestic circuit. For Minz, 2023 proved to be a significant year as his performances in domestic cricket earned him a spot in the IPL, and he continued to impress with his batting style. His aggressive batting style and consistent performances made him a valuable asset to his team.

Hard-hitter, a title given by his coach Chanchal Bhattacharya, who also coached Dhoni, has praised his performances and called him a natural, aggressive hitter of the ball. Comparing him with Dhoni, the coach said that after Dhoni, Robin is the only cricketer whose nature he admires. He also said that he is calm, polite and always eager to learn.

Another cricketer from Jharkhand -- Saurabh Tiwary, who played three One Day International (ODIs) for India and has been a part of many IPL teams over the years, also praised Minz. He mentioned that it has always been clear that this boy will be the next big-hitter in Indian cricket. He possesses natural talent and power. He further mentioned that he has been closely observing him for some time, and he will achieve great success in the future.

From Minz's early days at Sonnet Cricket Club (a club known for nurturing talent) to his debut for Jharkhand and subsequent IPL contract, there has been outstanding growth and improvement in his game. His ability to adapt to different formats and maintain his aggressive batting style has made him a player to watch out for in the future.

Beyond Cricket

Outside of cricket, Robin Minz leads a relatively low-key life. Minz is known for his humble background and strong family support, which has been a key in his cricketing journey. His father, Francis Xavier Minz, has been a constant source of motivation and support for him.

In an interview, Minz's father disclosed how his son's cricketing journey began. When Robin was two years old, his father came home and saw him trying to hit pebbles with a stick. Then his father made a bat from a piece of wood and bought a ball from the market and this is where his cricket journey started.

Despite being financially weak, Minz's father encouraged him to play cricket and provided a cricket kit and necessary things by borrowing money.

The left-hand batter is also active on social media, particularly Instagram, where he shares glimpses of his life and moments from his practice sessions. He is also passionate about fitness and shares his workout session on his social media account.
