The Indian women’s cricket team won a gold medal at the event last week, and now the men’s team, which is participating in the Asian Games for the first time, will look to do the same.

Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Indian men’s cricket team, defeated Nepal by 23 runs in their quarter-final match. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have participated in the previous editions of the tournament. They have already won five medals in cricket at the Asian Games – the men’s side won gold and bronze in the 2010 and 2014 editions, respectively, while the women’s team won consecutive silver medals, followed by a bronze this year.

In the quarter-final, they beat Malaysia in a match that went down to the wire. A half century by Saif Hassan recused Bangladesh after they were 3 for 3 in 1.5 overs, and took them to a total of 116 in 20 overs. Malaysia almost got to the target, before falling short by just two runs.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for IND vs BAN, Asian Games 2023

Yashasvi Jaiswal – batsman, India

Opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed a 49-ball century in the quarter-final against Nepal. The 21-year-old is now India’s youngest ever centurion in the format. He also India’s first ever centurion at the multi-sport event. Earlier this year, he scored a century on his Test debut as well. The young batsman has been in great form this year, which includes his run-fest in IPL 2023, and is a good choice for your MPL team’s captaincy.

Avesh Khan – bowler, India

Avesh Khan is another player you must pick in your fantasy team. He took three wickets against Nepal, before which he was impressive in IPL 2023. The pacer has played 16 T20 internationals for India, from which he has 16 wickets. He has also played five ODIs for India.

Rinku Singh – batsman, India

Rinku Singh loves finishing games, and will be looking for an opportunity to do so in the semi-final. After lighting up the stage in IPL 2023, the explosive batsman made his international debut in a T20 series against Ireland. Against Nepal in the quarter-final, he scored an unbeaten 37 off just 15 balls, laced with two boundaries and four maximums.

Saif Hassan – batsman, Bangladesh

When Bangladesh lost three wickets in 1.5 overs in the quarter-final, skipper Saif Hassan took matters into his own hands. He steadied the ship by scoring an unbeaten 50, which took Bangladesh to a total of 116.

Ripon Mondal – bowler, Bangladesh

Playing his first-ever T20I match, 20-year-old Ripon Mondal impressed by taking three wickets. Although inexperienced, he is still a good pick for your fantasy team going by his performance in the quarter-final against Malaysia.
