Cricket World Cup 2023: IND vs AFG Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: India vs Afghanistan, Cricket World Cup 2023 (India vs Afghanistan)

Date: October 11, Wednesday, 10.00 AM IST

Venue: Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi

India will play their second match of the Cricket World Cup 2023 against Afghanistan on October 11 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. Both teams are coming into this game on the back of contrasting results in their campaign opener – India defeated Australia while Afghanistan lost to Bangladesh.

The Indian bowlers did a great job to bowl out Australia for 199. Each of the six Indian bowler took at least one wicket each, but the standout bowler was Ravindra Jadeja, who picked up three wickets from his 10 overs while conceding merely 28 runs. In the chase, however, India lost three wickets for just two runs. Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed for a duck each, before Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s unbeaten partnership took India to a win with 52 balls remaining. KL Rahul missed a century by just three runs – he remained unbeaten on 97 and took the winning runs for India.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, scored merely 156 runs against Bangladesh. Apart from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who scored 47, no other batsman was able to make a substantial contribution. The total was too little for the bowlers to defend as Bangladesh went on to win the match by six wickets, with 92 balls remaining.

Ahead of the ninth game of Cricket World Cup 2023, here’s everything you need to know to maximise your chances of winning cash prizes on MPL fantasy.

Pitch report and weather update

Historically, the Arun Jaitley Stadium mostly witnessed low scoring games but with the new pitches laid out here using black spoil, we can expect to see an even contest between the bat and ball.

There is no chance of rain in Delhi on Wednesday (Oct 11). There will be plenty of sunshine in the capital city with a maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius in the noon. The evenings will be comparatively cooler with temperature reducing to 30 degrees Celsius.

The weather in Delhi will be humid through the day with a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius. There is no rain forecast.

Head-to-head record

In the 50-over format, the two sides have played against each other in only three matches, two of which were won by India. One match was won by India. It can be pointed out that in the 2019 World Cup, Afghanistan put up an excellent fight against India before losing the match.

Five players to watch out for

Virat Kohli – batsman, India

Against Australia, Virat Kohli once again proved why he is one of the best chasers in the world. Kohli walked in when India lost both their openers for a duck, then Shreyas Iyer also walked back on a duck. But Kohli took matters in his own hands and scored a match-winning 85 to take India closer to the target. Kohli, who has scored seven centuries since breaking his century drought in September 2022, has been in fine form lately.

KL Rahul – wicketkeeper batsman, India

KL Rahul was India’s best performer against Australia. The middle order batsman stitched together a match-winning partnership with Virat Kohli and remained unbeaten on 97. Not long ago, KL Rahul’s form was a worry for India. But he has put all concerns to rest with this knock.

Ravindra Jadeja – all-rounder, India

Ravindra Jadeja was India’s top bowler against Australia. He not only picked up three wickets (Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey), but also bowled at an excellent economy of just 2.80. Jadeja can help you win points in your fantasy game with both his batting and bowling.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz – wicketkeeper batsman, Afghanistan

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the only batsman who delivered the goods for Afghanistan against Bangladesh. The opening batsman scored 47 runs with the help of four boundaries and a maximum.  Earlier, he scored a century against Sri Lanka in the warmup match. A hard-hitting batsman, Gurbaz has an average and strike rate of 38.65 and 84.73 in 27 ODIs.

Mohammed Nabi – all-rounder, Afghanistan

Mohammed Nabi was not able to help Afghanistan against Bangladesh, and will be looking to make amends for it in this game.  He picked up four wickets for 44 runs in the warm-up against Sri Lanka, before which he scored a half century against the same opponents at the Asia Cup. Nabi brings with him plenty of experience and can help you win points with both the bat and ball.
