Arch rivals India and Pakistan will play the next match of the Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India have been absolutely dominating against Pakistan in World Cup history, leading the head-to-head 7-0. More recently in the Asia Cup Super Four stage encounter between the two sides, India won by 228 runs.

India have won both their World Cup 2023 games – against Australia and Afghanistan, respectively. Against Australia, the bowlers, especially the spinners, did a wonderful job, bowling out the opponents for 199. In reply, a half century each from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli helped India chase down the target in 41.2 overs. In the next game against Afghanistan, India chased down 272 in 35 overs. Rohit Sharma scored a century while Kohli contributed with a half century. Earlier in the game, Jasprit Bumrah picked up four wickets.

Pakistan, like India, have also won both their first two games. In their 81-run win over the Netherlands, Saud Shakeel and Mohammed Rizwan scored half centuries while Haris Rauf starred with the ball, picking up three wickets. Against Sri Lanka, they won by six wickets after Abdullah Shafique and Mohammed Rizwan scored unbeaten centuries.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for IND vs PAK, Cricket World Cup 2023

Mohammad Rizwan – wicketkeeper batsman, Pakistan

Mohammad Rizwan has been in a brilliant form ever since arriving in India. He scored 103 against New Zealand in the warm-up, 68 against the Netherlands in Pakistan’s tournament opener, and an unbeaten 131 against Sri Lanka in the previous game. His 131 was laced with eight boundaries and three maximums. Rizwan was also in good form at the Asia Cup last month, where he scored 195 runs in four innings. The wicketkeeper batsman has overall played 67 ODIs for Pakistan, from which he has a batting average of 40.25.

Haris Rauf – bowler, Pakistan

Haris Rauf is currently Pakistan’s best bowler who will be their key to dismissing the Indian batsmen. He picked up nine wickets in four matches at the Asia cup 2023 and started the World Cup with three wickets against the Netherlands and two wickets against Sri Lanka. Notably, he was Pakistan’s best bowler against India in the Asia Cup group stage game, in which he picked up three wickets. In his 30-match ODI career, Rauf has taken 58 wickets.

Virat Kohli – batsman, India

Virat Kohli has a good record against Pakistan. In 16 ODI matches against the arch-rivals, Kohli has amassed 662 runs at an average of 55.16. In the group match if the 2019 World Cup, Kohli scored a knock of 65 runs. And going by his recent form, it looks like Kohli is set to deliver another masterclass against Pakistan in Ahmedabad. Against Australia, he rescued India from a difficult position, and went on to score a match-winning 85. In the next game against Afghanistan, he scored another half century. Kohli has seven international centuries since breaking his century drought in September 2022, and will be looking for an eighth one on Saturday.

Shubman Gill – batsman, India

Shubman Gill, who will be playing his first World Cup match, is in the form of his life. In the 10 ODIs he has played in India in 2023, Gill has amassed 698 runs at an average of 77.56. In his last five innings, the opener has scored 345 runs. His return to the side after recovering from dengue will be a huge boost for India in this high-octane clash.

Babar Azam – batsman, Pakistan

Babar Azam has scored only 15 runs combined in his first two outings at the World Cup. But he still remains indispensable to your fantasy XI. He was Pakistan’s top run-scorer at the Asia Cup 2023, with 207 runs in four innings, and also scored two half centuries in the two warm-up games before the World cup.
