Villiers also finds his name in the list of most “player of the match” awards in World Cups (thrice). He holds this record alongside another former South African cricketer, Jacques Kallis.

In the 2015 World Cup, De Villiers made 482 runs at a Strike Rate of 144.0 and an average of 96.0. In ICC batsmen rating, At the end of the 2015 World Cup tournament, De Villiers grabbed the number 1 position in the ICC batsmen rating in ODI cricket and number 3 in test cricket. 

After scoring his very first Test century in 2005 against England and his very first ODI century in 2007 against West Indies, De Villiers has scored a total 22 Test centuries and 25 ODI centuries in his career.

As far as IPL career is concerned, De Villiers has proved to be one of the most important players for the teams he has been a part of since its inception. De Villiers was a part of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the Indian Premier League ( i.e., 2008-2010). In 2011, Royal Challengers Bangalore bought AB de Villiers at Rs 5 crores and retained the player. This is because Villiers has proved to be a master performer for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in all the IPL seasons since 2011. His top-rated performances include the 2015 IPL match when he scored 133* runs in 59 balls against Mumbai Indians, one of the strongest IPL teams. He also scored 129* runs in 52 balls in a 2016 IPL match against Gujarat Lions. He, in fact, made a total of 687 runs in 2016 IPL.
