Kane Williamson – The Reliable Captain

IPL Fantasy Stats Kane Williamson

The pillar of the New Zealand team since his debut in 2010, Kane Williamson is a right-handed top-order batsman across all formats. Williamson has been rated consistently as one of the top-ranked ODI and Test batsmen in the world. The right-handed batsman is also an occasional off-spin bowler. He is the finest batsman for the New Zealand team after Martin Crowe and is exceptionally talented in playing quality spin and fast bowling.

Williamson comes from a sporting family, so he took a liking to cricket at an early age. His father played the U-17 cricket for Northern Districts, his mother was a representative basketball player, and his sisters played age-group level volleyball. Williamson’s Under 19 cricket days revealed his potential of becoming the backbone of his team during his career.

In 2010, Kane Williamson made his international debut for the tri-series in Sri Lanka. Although his debut wasn’t great owing to ducks in his first two innings, he proved his talent in the following games by scoring a ton against Bangladesh in the same year. Williamson is pretty comfortable with pace and spin while batting on the crease. He’s also a part-time off-spinner and an outstanding catcher, although he was banned from bowling in international cricket for an illegal action in 2014.

His IPL debut was in 2015 as a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad, which won the 2016 IPL title. In 2018, he was the skipper for SRH and helped his team finish as runners-up. He also won the Orange Cap in the 2018 season for scoring the most runs (735). For the 2021 IPL season, Kane Williamson is a part of the SRH team with the skipper David Warner.

Williamson is the current captain of the New Zealand National Team for all formats. His ability to stay calm even during a difficult match is exceptional, making him a reliable captain for his team. His conduct during the tied final tied Super Over, and after losing the Cup was incredible. In Martin Crowe’s words, referring to Williamson, this is the dawn of probably the greatest ever batsman of New Zealand.
